Salt and Light in a Dark world

Piercing the dark with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, This is what Christians are called to be light and salt Christ said in Matthew 5 verses 13-16 “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Christ is telling us that we as Christians are to be well salted, salt is used as a season, and a preservative and just as salt can lose it savor or become diluted or of no use, it is or can be replaced and the old salt is caste out! So as Christians we must be careful not to allow our witness to be diluted with the things of this world! What do we do with salt when we get it home? It is placed or kept in its own box or shaker just as we as Christians are told by Paul in Romans 12:2 “Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” So we should be set apart from this world and not be conformed to it in our Christian lives in our thoughts, our music, our actions, our words and living day to day. All those who are saved by Christ are saints and belong to Him as His we are to be set apart and reserved for His will and purpose and Glory not for our own.

Christ said “Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” The idea of strait meaning difficult and perplex. The Christian life is not an easy one, it is rough, and difficult and hard. So we must be careful not to become hardened but rather be ready to be used of God making sure we are well seasoned In His word. Ready to be the light He has called us to be for His ultimate purpose and Glory. The fishermen in Christ time used lights hanging over the water to attract the fish and they would toss nets over and bring in the load of fish. What an amazing truth about God’s word It is he that brings in those and we are called to be ready and to caste out our nets. “The Harvest is Plenty but laborers are few”.

So as the New Year has arrived, we as Christians should examine ourselves and really ask the Lord to show us where our testimony or “Salt” has been dampened. I can attest to the fact that it is so easy to allow this world to dilute my witness when I find the things this world pleasurable and I do not find Christ as my all in all. Let us be like David and cry to God to restore us unto His salvation and mercy and ask Him to renew a right spirit within me within you and to restore us to where we can reflect His light of Love and grace towards others that are lost and dying. I heard a great man say and have heard him repeat many times and it is so true “What matters is a person will be living a thousand years from now and they will be either burning in the pits of hell or rejoicing in the streets of glory.” What kind of a witness are you?
